Free Household Hazardous Waste Collections for 2010 PDF Print E-mail

hazmatThe Southern Windsor/Windham Counties Solid Waste Management District (SW/WCSWMD) will hold  free household hazardous waste (HHW) collections on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at the Springfield Transfer Station and Recycling Center, 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and at the Rockingham Transfer Station, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

There will also be collections on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the Springfield Transfer Station from 9:00 a.m. - noon and at the Weathersfield Transfer Station from 9:00 a.m. - noon.

This year, the District will hold additional collections in conjunction with the Windham Solid Waste District.  The schedule for these "Rural Rovers" is:

Saturday, May 22 Townshend 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Saturday, June 12 Ludlow Transfer Station 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, July 10 Windsor Town Garage 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Do NOT Bring: DO Bring:
latex paint (thicken and trash it) aerosols
waste oil (service stations may take it) antifreeze
fluorescent bulbs (transfer station or hardware store) automotive products
ammunition (gun dealer) gasoline
asbestos hobby chemicals
auto batteries (transfer station) household cleaners
alkaline batteries (trash) kerosene
empty containers (recycle) paint cleaners
fireworks pesticides
medical waste oil-based paints
medicines (trash) pool chemicals
computers (transfer station) mercury thermometers
radioactive material mercury thermostats

Bring in a mercury thermometer - get a free digital thermometer.

Pre-registration is not required for District residents. 
If you are a Conditionally Exempt Generator of HazWaste (less than 220 lbs./mo.), you may participate but you must pre-register and pay for your disposal costs.
