Southern Windsor/Windham Counties Solid Waste Management District (SW/WCSWMD) is a union municipal district dedicated to providing solid waste management authority, services, and planning to its member towns.  The District was chartered in 1981 and currently serves fourteen Vermont towns. The District is managed currently by the Southern Windsor County Regional Planning Commission, Thomas J. Kennedy, Executive Director.

Backyard Composting Workshops

The District is offering backyard composting workshops this year. If you attend a workshop, you can purchase one SoilSaver composter at the greatly discounted price of $25.00 (additional composters are $40). Please bring a check or cash as we cannot process credit cards.

The workshops will be held at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Rockingham Public Library - Wednesday, May 17
  • Windsor Public Library - Wednesday, June 7
  • Springfield Town Library - Thursday, June 8
  • Fletcher Memorial Library in Ludlow - Wednesday, June 14

SoilSaver composter The SoilSaver has natural insulating properties due to is structural foam construction, a feature that makes it resistant to weather and UV rays. The Sure-Close pail is a beige and white plastic container with a 1.9 gallon capacity. It can sit on the kitchen counter or be mounted on a wall or under the sink. It is about 9.25" x 9.25" x 11.5" and has a wide opening.

District Meeting

The next quarterly meeting of the Board of Supervisors is the annual meeting. It is scheduled for Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Select Board's Meeting Room, 3rd floor, Springfield Town Offices.  The public is welcome to attend.
